Sister to our Iris Skirt, the Iris Top features a scoop neckline, fitted shape and scalloped edging. It's knitted in a two-colour slip cross stitch in linen yarn. The stitch has vertical stripes of structure and openwork, creating a lightweight drape in the linen fabric. 

 

The top is knitted in the round, from the hem up. Gradual decreases and increases at the sides shape the waist. When the armholes are reached, the stitches are split into two, working the front and back separately. The shoulder seams are joined, then the armhole and neck trims are picked up and knitted.

 

This pattern provides easy-to-follow detailed instructions using the following techniques: 

Long tail cast on, knitting in the round, knit, purl, slip, knitting flat, decreasing, increasing, cast off, picking up stitches, seaming.

Skill Level: Intermediate. 

 

Sizing: 8 sizes (XS-4X) see size guide. Alice wears size 2 (S).

 

Yarn: Fingering weight yarn with approximately 150m/50g.

We recommend using a linen yarn. You will need approx 57g/171m [62g/186m, 72g/216m, 80g/240m, 92g/276m, 99g/297m, 109g/327m, 117g/351m] of colour A and 46g/138m [50g/150m, 59g/177m, 66g/198m, 74g/222m, 81g/243m, 89g/267m, 96g/288m] of colour B. We have used: 

 

Colour A - Bordeaux

2 [2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3] balls of BC Garn Lino in Bordeaux - 100% Linen. (150m/164yds per 50g ball.)

 

Colour B - Lilac

1 [1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2] balls of BC Garn Lino in Lilac - 100% Linen. (150m/164yds per 50g ball.)

 

For the green top, we have used BC Garn Lino in Off White for colour A and Emerald for colour B. 

Alternative yarn suggestions: Quince & Co Sparrow, Lang Yarns Crealino, Katia lino 100%, Majo Garn Sunny Linen, Lang Yarns Ananas, Krea Delux organic cotton, Drops Safran.

 

Suggested Needles: 

4mm/US 6 circular knitting needles, length 60- 80cm/24-32''.

3mm/US 2.5 circular knitting needles, length 60- 80cm/24-32'' and 40-50cm/16-20''.

 

Gauge:  Slip Cross Stitch using 4mm/US 6 knitting needles:

10cm/4'' x 10cm/4'' = 20sts x 24 rows
