Iris Skirt - Knitting Pattern
The Iris skirt has a gentle A-line shape that falls just below the knee. It's knitted in a two-colour slip cross stitch using linen yarn, the fabric combines subtle structure with openwork to create a beautiful drape. The skirt zips neatly at the side, with a clean, minimal finish at the waistband and hem. A video tutorial for inserting the zip is included in the pattern.
The skirt is knitted in the round, from the bottom up. Gradual decreases are worked until reaching the point where the zip will be inserted. The skirt is worked flat from this point, making the opening for the zip whilst working more rapid decreases. The skirt is blocked, then the zip is inserted.
This pattern provides easy-to-follow detailed instructions using the following techniques:
Long tail cast on, knitting in the round, knit, purl, slip, knitting flat, decreasing, increasing, cast off, inserting a zip.

Follow these steps to pick your size:
1. The skirt is designed to sit just at the navel. Use your tape measure to take this circumference measurement. (You can also decide where you want your skirt to sit and take this measurement instead).
2. Calculate a negative ease of approx 3-4cm. This is 3-4cm less than the measurement taken in step 1.
3. Use the measurements below to pick the closest measurement to yours:
Circumference of top of skirt: 62cm [68cm, 72cm, 76cm, 82cm, 86cm, 92cm, 96cm, 102cm, 106cm, 112cm, 116cm].
Example: You measure 76cm circumference, 76cm - 3-4cm = 72-73cm. So you should pick size 3 with a circumference of 72cm.
It's most important that the waistband of the skirt fits; this is the cast-off row with no stretch. The skirt has been designed with ease at the hips, and the fabric has stretch here. There is more information on this and how to customise the size in the pattern, as well as all relevant flat measurements.
For an indication of where the skirt falls, Alice is 5'5''/165cm tall. Instructions on how to modify the length are included in the pattern.
