The Clover Beanie is worked in stocking stitch with all-over clover embroidery; it has a structured 2x2 rib hem and a slouchy fit. It's knitted in the round from the bottom up, with decreases shaping the top of the beanie before it's pulled together to close. 

 

This pattern provides easy-to-follow detailed instructions using the following techniques: 

Tubular cast-on, knitting in the round, knit, purl, decreasing, reading charts.

Skill Level: Easy. 

 

Sizing: 6 sizes from 0-6 months to Adult XL; see size guide. Alice wears size 5 (S/M).

 

Yarn: Aran weight yarn with approx. 77m/50g. Standard stocking stitch tension of 18sts x 24 rows. To get the best bobbles, use a yarn that is loosely spun.

You will need approx. 35g/54m [45g/69m, 54g/83m, 57g/88m, 70g/108m, 83g/128m].

 

For the navy beanie we used: 

1 [1, 2, 2, 2, 2] balls of Woolyknit Aran in Navy - 100% British Wool. (77m/85yds per 50g ball.)

 

Alternative yarn suggestions: Drops Alaska (used in the grey beanie, colour 04), Drops Nepal, West Yorkshire Spinners The Croft Aran.

 

We also used lighter, hairy yarns for a softer-feel beanie. For the red beanie we used:

1 [1, 1, 1, 1, 2] balls of Gabo Wool Cashmerini in Wine - 70% extra fine merino wool, 30% cashmere. (115m/126yds per 50g ball.)For the cream sweater we used: 

 

Alternative yarn suggestions: Lang Yarns Yak (used in the blue beanie, colour 0021), Drops Air, Wool and the Gang Feeling Good Yarn (used in the pink beanie, colour Cameo Rose).

 

Suggested Needle Size: 

3.5mm/US 4 circular knitting needles, length 40- 50cm/16-20''.

 

5mm/US 8 circular knitting needles, length 40- 50cm/16-20''.

 

5mm/US 8 cable needle.

 

Gauge:  Stocking Stitch with bobbles using 5mm/US 8 knitting needles:

10cm/4'' x 10cm/4'' = 18sts x 24 rows
